Bewafaa - Explained

Image
Bewafas are a class of people, typically shown in many Bollywood songs, as exhibiting these characteristics : Ignorance - They tend to be ignorant to others' emotions and to be self-centred/ self-obsessed. They also tend to assume that their perception of what's real is more true than others' perception of truth/reality. They even resort to manipulative gaslighting when their version of reality isn't sufficiently acknowledged. They are sometimes narcissistic, and emotionally bankrupt. Lack of integrity - their actions do not measure up to their words. One day you might be their world, the next day they might turn the world against you. 'Your word is your Bond' doesn't apply to them. Disorganised belief system - they tend to have a mess of an internal organisation. Their statements do not follow logical coherence over time. If the mind is analogous to a library, wherein memories are stored as books are stored in separate shelves with a way to find them, the...

Filhall

The song manifests the stress of people trapped in exclusive, binding relationships involving commitments that weren't based on adequate consideration of the individual's varied emotions over time, and which do not acknowledge the individual's Right to Change.  Will it be immoral for an individual to wish to revise the terms/commitments involved in his/her relationship with someone, given that: Those commitments were made without conscious thought, based on a template borrowed from society that didn't offer many options or customisations to suit the individual's basic needs. A good contract is one that offers the parties the opportunity of informed consent. A contract based on ignorant, unthoughtful consent is not a fully valid contract. By inhibiting change, we inhib...

On Identity

Identity is an idea of one's virtues and vices, recognised by oneself and validated by significant others.  An identity crisis involves self-doubt, exacerbated by doubt from significant others. Faith in oneself, and faith in us from significant others, are the medicine to elevate from the crisis. In depravity of such faith, one may succumb to a toxic self-image and unleash demons that otherwise could have been kept calm with love. Love is an insufficiently appreciated medicine for most mental illnesses.
