Ariana - God is a Woman
One thing I adore about Ariana very much is her offensive confidence and calm cynicism. She isn't agitated in the face of criticism, but builds herself up and elevates herself.
'God is a woman' song gives me good vibes always. I don't pay much attention to lyrics, rather what entices me is her attitude. She places herself at the centre of her universe. The kind of attitude she exhibits inspires one to survive in the world of snobs with one simple technique - The subtle art of not giving a fuck.
Self-love is an essential prerequisite to love others. One can worship oneself without looking down upon others. It shouldn't have to be treated as arrogance, but pride. Though there is a thin line between the two - and arrogance is often a symptom of being insecure about one's own self-worth, we still should inculcate into our lives some rituals of self love that remind us of the only goddess we can rely upon - ourselves.
Coming to the lyrics, 'God is a woman' isn't discriminatory on grounds of sex. 'Woman' here doesn't refer to females, but to traditional feminine characteristics of compassion, kindness, emotions, including negative emotions of vengeance and fury. Sex can be segregated into categories, gender cannot be. There is a woman inside every man, and a man inside every woman.
To be a woman doesn't mean to have inconsistent emotions or words that flip according to mood, but rather to be true to yourself and your emotions. To be a woman means to have a high emotional intelligence and emotional wisdom. It means to live meaningfully and serving humanity.
The more diverse emotions we can process, more womanly we are, and closer to god we get. Lesser our emotional intelligence, farther from the god we become.
This isn't to indignify men by making emotions an exclusivity of women. This is just a liberal comical interpretation, intended to ignite thought.
Gender empowerment and gender liberation is not just for women, it is for men and women both. In our society, men too bear the brunt of moulds they are coerced to conform to. Men should be free to be sensitive, and women should be free to be strong/aggressive.
These arguments aren't purely social philosophy, there is economic rationale for them too. In the coming age of artificial intelligence, traditional jobs of rationality will be slowly taken over by robots. Emotions will be the last thing robots can lay their hands on. For a long time, emotions will remain to be an exclusivity of humans. In the job market, survivors will be those with great emotional intelligence and rational skills enough to use the machines and tools to deliver synergistic output.
God is a woman.
