ON STORIES

There's nothing as powerful as stories.
Stories that we tell ourselves
about who we are,
about what happened.

Our past, as we remember, is a subjective, biased perception of what happened -
the stories that we weaved
to make sense of how we felt -
to make sense of the smiles that we gave even when we felt like dying.

While these stories alter dynamically with the consolations of philosophy, and with time - to suit us,
what truly is most effectual in changing our responses to these memories in the most natural and humane manner is
overlaying them with new ones - that are not too disconnected from the old ones.
We can seek the love of those we fear hate us, gift small tokens of thanks to people who over-invested in us and whose expectations we couldn't meet, do new stupidities.
We can add more colours to our experiences, to make them overall bearable, instead of suppressing them with intoxication - like we condition the bitter-gourd with the right amount of salt and spices to make it palatable.

Future of earth might belong to the artificial humans who would have abilities to delete or edit any of their memories to suit their interests and to enhance their effectiveness in pursuance of an objective. For natural humans, we have no ultimate objective. In Osho's words "Only machines have purpose. Humanity has no purpose, Love has no purpose."

One can't truly appreciate calm without having an experience of chaos. We are destined to suffer and enjoy - with our ability to experience subtle and deep pleasures, of art, beauty and sunlight, heavily correlated to the darkness that lies within.
