ON LONELINESS
Loneliness is a state of being wherein one is unable to see himself in other people, and is anxious about the validity of his existence. One might feel lonely even when surrounded by several people, friends and well-wishers.
Instead of seeing loneliness as an inactive or ineffectual existence, we can see it as a respite from meaningless preoccupation with useless people. As Seneca once said, "All those who call you to themselves draw you farther from yourself".
Instead of waiting for loneliness to come by chance, we can proactively dedicate some time to it once in a while. This is not to suggest recedence from social life, but rather to kindle a deep sense of self-love that would enable one to participate in social life with greater confidence and self-assertion. We can see loneliness as an opportunity to spend quality time with ourselves, to read a good book, to listen to our internal multiple selves andt to develop deep harmony among them. After all, who else can be more worthy of our time and attention than ourselves.
