ON OVERSHOOTINGS
Aggressive pursuits are often bordered around our insecurities. The thrill of speed is most sought by people who have lived slow for far too long. People with fear of poverty skew their life priorities towards accumulation of wealth. In such aggressive pursuits, one is bound to overshoot - aiming too high, resorting to fast lanes and commiting stupidities therein. The confidence of committing these stupidities is, more often than not, sourced from external validations of one's ingenuity; assurance provides a cushion to fall on. One goes on to accumulate more than he sought in the beginning, only to realise the cost too late. Overshootings are very human, very normal. They make big inventions and human evolution possible. The tendency to overshoot moderates over time naturally in the absence of a stern external opposition that otherwise incites it; like a wild horse is tamed after leaving it loose with a long rope slowly drawn back.
